Practicing gratitude does not mean that you ignore the negative or wear rose-colored glasses. It simply means that you actively search for what is good.  80-95% of our thoughts are negative and repetitive. Our brain looks for the path of least resistance and negative thoughts are easier. Negative experiences are immediately stored in long-term memory.  Positive experiences require them to be held in awareness for several seconds to transfer from short to long-term storage. Since we rarely do this, many positive experiences flow straight through the brain. We spend a lot of time focusing on the negative, and repeated practice of any behavior becomes a habit. #mindfulmonday

The human brain can only focus for approximately 90 minutes before its cognitive abilities begin to slip – but the workday lasts much longer than that. 🧠  Without periodic rest, the brain loses its ability to retain memories, process emotions, and maintain focus. Over time, this leads to feelings of exhaustion, workplace burnout, stress, and anxiety.  To be the most productive version of yourself at work and in life, taking regular brain breaks throughout your day is essential.  Here are three way to give your brain a break during the workday:  1️⃣ Don’t eat at your desk during your lunch break.  2️⃣ Schedule smaller breaks throughout your workday.  3️⃣ Actively rest during breaks from work.

When we have uncomfortable feelings and emotions, it’s tempting to try to push them away. Unfortunately, this just increases the intensity and duration with which we feel them. We use our mental energy trying not to feel them, which only makes us feel them more.  Give yourself permission to feel all the feels. #mindfulmonday #mindfulness #resilience #mentalhealthawarenessmonth

Most of us are taught this simple lesson when we are kids. Unfortunately, it is not always practiced once we are adults. The human tendency to attribute our behavior to our intent and others’ behaviors to the type of person they are is referred to as the fundamental attribution error. Someone runs a stop sign, and we think they are a jerk. We run a stop sign and “oops”.

Regardless of our intentions, people only know what they see through our actions, and we only know what we see through the actions of others. In between our intentions and our actions lies a chasm.
